harrypotterconfessions: Nearly everyone in the fandom believes that Tom’s inability to love was solely because of the fact that he was conceived under a love potion, but I feel like it was other factors that contributed to his development of apathy. If you think about, he grew up in an orphanage where he was constantly outcasted and was never wanted with no evidence that he was ever worthy of love from the time he was born. So maybe over time, something clicked in his brain, and he no longer had the capability to genuinely have compassion or care in regards to another person, because if you think about it, those virtues were so foreign to him that he couldn’t possibly fathom the thought of needing them in his life for any reason. Besides, I’m sure there are other magical children who had been conceived under a love potion, but they were still capable of some form of love even if it wasn’t romantic, because in a way, it wasn’t so foreign to them as it had been to Tom. -- source link
