dgcatanisiri: trytogethappy: the humanity of the AIDS crisis: the ward by gideon mendel colorized by me Can I just say that I find the colorization VERY important? This was not that long ago. I’m just entering my thirties, this was taking place in my childhood. But when we see images in black and white, that trips something in our brains, tells us “this was such a long time ago.” This wasn’t. The people in these photos could have been with us still today, just reaching retirement age. This is a history that we forget was recent enough that we COULD be hearing these stories, if they’d survived. That the few who did survive, the lucky ones who managed to avoid this fate, but still had to watch their friends fade away are still grieving the things that these people never got to see, are angry because these lives and the pain they were going through were dismissed. This is not ancient history. This is living memory. -- source link
