While Bernie was held captive, having sewn up her own gunshot wound (I imagine it was a through-and-through on her side or on her arm because it would have posed greater risk to her organs if it was a midline abdominal wound) that she obtained during an escape attempt, she was held in the dark depths of the insurgents’ hideout.The only thing she dreamed of seeing again, the only idea to bring her comfort because she knew it was constant, was the sky. Thoughts of her loved ones (thoughts of Serena) were placed on the back burner, she never knew if she’d actually ever see them again.After overcoming her own anxieties and pushing herself out of her comfort zone to just visit her son, she opens herself up to him, deciding he deserves the truth since she stayed away to protect her own mental health…especially from him.
