Husseins Chalayans ‘Airmail dress’ is something that my tutor told me to take a look at. Chalayan’s dress is a packaged dress, which folds into a standard envelope. It contains instructions for the fit of the dress. Whilst I was discussing with my tutor on how dress patterns could be interesting to use for my artist book, Chalayan’s dress truly helped me to translate my thoughts clearly. For fashion designers, these patterns serve as a model on how to make the garment, thus they are detailed and outline very specifically how it is supposed to be made. In my understanding, its their form of 'technical drawing’, and thus this is how the process begins. The way the dress folds out could be used to tell the story of Marina’s career. However, I have not yet fully decided on how I would want to do this… -- source link
