Issey Miyake’s latest window collection is more than inspiring! So simple, and yet beautiful. In my last post, I was looking for inspiration - how can material influence the design of Marina’s studio? And just like her soft, flowing fabrics, Issey Miyake’s ‘bloom skin’ is helping me to gather some ideas - what if the form or outline of the material can help me to create a design in the studio? And how would I go about doing this? As per Marina’s requests, I do have to create a showroom. I personally wanted to create the showroom as an extension to her studio. The reason being, is because it’s somehow a seperate space, as this is the part which gets exposed to the outside world - clients, buyers and other key people in the industry who can take a look at her collection. And thus, her private working studio is shielded. From this, I need to observe the material, understand its properties and experiment! Just like Issey Miyake has effectively done, if I position fans in different parts of the material and document the forms it creates, these organic, free flowing shapes is what can help me to create the design of this extension to her studio, and thus something completely different from her working space. I want her studio to have a soft interior, without changing the exterior. But in this case, I will be studying the properties of the material she uses, to influence the exterior of the showroom, which brings about the contrast -- source link
