brooklynmuseum: On February 12, 1947, Christian Dior showed his first haute couture collection to great acclaim. Carmel Snow, editor in chief of Harper’s BAZAAR in America, coined the phrase “New Look,” epitomized by the shapely Bar suit. This revolutionary style, with its nipped in waist and full skirts, met with unrivaled success. Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams opens with Dior’s iconic suit, a design that he would himself reference in many collections including his last in 1957. Subsequent artistic directors at the House of @dior have presented their own take on this Parisian icon which can be seen in the exhibition. Visit bit.ly/diorbkm to purchase your tickets today.
