Remember Last Year?Because last year we ended Spooptober with a Top 10 Spoopiest Specials list, and in that post, I said The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror episodes deserved their own list. That’s right. I planned something for once. And I know could’ve gone with a more recent topic and with a bigger fandom here on Tumblr, but, well, if I wasn’t doing this for me, I wouldn’t really be doing this, right? Besides, to me, no one does Halloween episodes quite like The Simpsons. And, hey, theye’ve parodied just about anything spoopy you could want! From The Great Pumpkin to the devil himself. There’s something here for everyone. And because of it, “Treehouse of Horror” has become synonymous with Halloween. It’s just a part of the holiday now, and it’s near 30 year legacy means there’s a lot of 3-pronged masterpieces to pick from if you’re talking the best of the best.#5. Treehouse of Horror I - Bad Dream House, Hungry are the Damned, & The RavenSometimes the first is far from the worst. In The Simpsons’ second season, this gruesome trio of tales started off a tradition no one expected– not even the showrunners themselves! From the stunning bad dream house, to the first appearance of Kang and Kodos, to an absolutely hysterical take on Edgar Allen Poe’s classic, it’s easy to see why this was the special that started it all.#4. Treehouse of Horror III - Clown without Pity, King Homer, & Dial ‘Z’ for ZombieAnd here we have some of the most quotable triads of terror. Clown Without Pity is honestly the reason this made it so high on this list, being one of my all time favourite segments in the show, but then you’ve got a great send-off to King Kong, and The Simpsons’ take on zombies. Can’t get more classic than that!#3. Treehouse of Horror V - The Shinning, Time and Punishment, & Nightmare CafeteriaThis special’s definitely a special one.In this trilogy of spookiness, there’s a running gag where Groundskeeper Willie keeps getting killed with an axe, and every time, it gets me. Add that in to a just phenomenal parody of The Shining, some great time-travelling jokes, and self-aware story about a carnivorous Elementary school staff, and you’ve got yourself a night to remember.#2. Treehouse of Horror IV - The Devil and Homer Simpson, Terror at 5 ½ Feet, & Bart Simpson’s DraculaDamn! How can anything top this? Each of these horrifying shorts is a masterpiece in its own right. The Devil and Homer Simpsons is iconic, Terror is amazing, and Bart Simpsons’ Dracula is hilarious. To say anymore would be to rob you of the pleasure. Check it out for yourself.#1. Treehouse of Horror VI - Attack of the 50 Foot Eyesores, & Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace, Homer ³And here it is. The funniest, scariest, and most clever three horror stories in Simpsons history. Why so good? Everything just works. The pacing is seamless, the comedy is top-notch, and, well, I could go on. These are some of the most unforgettable ones, too. If I think Treehouse of Horror, it doesn’t take me long to start thinking about number VI. But that’s just me. Honestly, there’s literal decades-worth of these specials and so many more that deserve a spot on the list. Did I miss your favourite classic? I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s too many great ones to even count. -- source link
