Fourteen years I waited for this book, and the wait was so incredibly worth it. If you love an author, and love what they write, all you look forward to is the next book. I just hope it doesn’t take another fourteen years! The Dragon Knight can, in my view, be seen as either a collection of short stories, or an eighth novel because their is a framework story that ties the shorter ones together. It is a standalone book, which can be read at any point in the series, though I feel reading it as the eighth book allows you to appreciate all the character and plot references. The stories of familiar characters make sense, and you have a reference for where the story is in relation to others. My favorites were the ones that talked about John, Jack and Charles. The framework story, of Samarra and the myth of the Dragon Knight is classically wonderful Owens. It brings together so many myths and legends, and yet stands on its own. Without giving anything away, the revelation of what the dragons were was astonishing, I did not see it coming at all. Samarra’s story was about hope, faith, trust in friends and magic. A truly wonderful tale full of humor, heart and strength. The ending definitely leaves things wide open for more books in this series, and I truly hope more will be coming, soon. -- source link
