bigstarkenergy: antthonystark: “It started off with someone who is absolutely self-centred, has more money than they could ever spend, is spiritually dead—and has no idea that they are about to go through a crucible that is going to put them in a position to be of service to their community. […] And by the end, you’re willing to give the ultimate sacrifice, your life, despite your family and your grounded-ness and your desire to not want to do that —so that the community can thrive.” — robert downey jr. on tony stark’s journey i find it really intresting how he refers to tony in IM1 as “me,” and “I’m” as if it’s literally him, RDJ. but then talking about tony in endgame it’s “him” and “he,” completly objective. it really shows how much rdj saw himself in Tony’s story in the beginning, especially in the phrasing “the calvary can come and bring me back to my stupid life.” you can sense the undertones of anger and regret. you can tell that this means so much more than a character to him. that line, coupled with the fact that he says I genuinely, as if it’s him, that matters. and then he says “is spiritually dead, and has no idea that they’re about to go through a crucible that is going to put them in a position of service to their community.” that’s almost all applicable to rdj. tony stark matters this much to all of us, to me, because rdj could always relate to tony in a way very few people could. he made tony accessible. i have very little in common with people like tony, I’m not a tech genius, I’m not a billionare, I don’t live in a mansion. but almost every human being who’s ever lived can relate to emotions like fear. the want to protect the people we love. and most of all, the fact that people change. that’s why tony is so beloved, and that’s why rdj’s portrayal of him over the years matters so much. because it mattered to him. -- source link
