Story time: I used to do gymnastics in elementary school. After 3 years of misgendering, disappointment, and frustration, I had a bad attitude about the whole sport. The final straw was the studio trying to put me on the boy’s team even after telling them I didn’t want to. I would act out by going on the high beam without permission and mocking the boys in class. Eventually, they recommended that I quit. I can only wonder what it would have been like if I were cis? I could have built so many new connections and abilities through gym. Now imagine the thousands of trans kids who are excluded from physical education every year. Trans people should have the right to participate, just like anyone else. Our bodies come in many shapes and sizes, the same as cis people. Attempting to force us onto the wrong teams is as unethical as it is insulting. Trans athletes deserve so much respect for what they endure. -- source link
