Roles for asian actors/actresses have always been minimal and they become smaller when asian characters are transformed into white characters. As it stands, Asians make up about 4.4% of speaking roles in Hollywood.This “tradition” still occurs today: Recently, Scarlett Johansson, a white actress, has been slated for the lead Japanese role in Ghost in the Shell.
