know-your-place-woman: Review: Daughter for DessertGenre: Video Game/Visual NovelIn this visual novel, you take over the role of a small town diner owner. It’s a chose your own adventure type story, with an added emphasis on who you’re romantically intertwined with. You can opt to sleep with a handful of women throughout the various chapters, but I’m not to sure if you can actually change the course of the story outside of that. There’s Amanda, the main love interest for the main character. She’s bubbly, fun but a bit naive. Then there’s Katie, a more edgy character who happens to be Amanda’s best friend. Another option is Heidi, a former bartender who takes a liking to you after a night out playing video games (can’t make that up.) There’s three or four other women you can be involved with but they don’t seem to be that viable as a long term romance. It should be noted at this point that this game does have some taboo qualities to its plot. The original story featured you playing the father to Amanda’s daughter. However the game has undergone some changes, where you can now change the relationship dynamic between you and Amanda to whatever you want. The relationship change can be boiled down to a simple moniker change in the option menu. The game does come with voice over options, but you can turn them off - which I would recommend. Outside of the hacky voice acting, there’s not too much else to complain about. The animations are seductive, and the writing isn’t awful all things considered. Sure, this isn’t masterpiece literature, there does exist some scenes where you’ll roll your eyes, but it’s not as bad as Fifty Shades of Grey. (I think, I don’t know). The game does contain several mini-games that are rather enjoyable. They’re not too complicated, and they’re pretty few and far between but they’re worthwhile. There’s an old-school top down car game, where you need to avoid obstacles. There’s also a pipe fixing puzzle mini-game, which is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. All the mini-games so far seem to directly affect whether or not you sleep with a specific woman, so it’s best to get good or use the rewind option.Overall I think this is an enjoyable experience. You’ll be swept up in some of the relationships, and if you’re not too much of a stickler you should enjoy the art. The original taboo nature of the game may turn some people off but as mentioned, you can change the dynamic of the relationship to something less controversial. The games free to play on a delay, or you can pay ten bucks a month to their Patreon for up to date chapters. Final Grade: B+ -- source link
