GENTLEMAN FETISHHow do you see the Gentleman? The gentleman however — who like the dandy, hardly ever paid his tailor — underlined his status by preferring classic and well-worn clothing that was first worn by his house-staff. “Shabby chic” was therefore already a past phenomenon, also understood by citizens that lived on the other side of the Atlantic, in Boston or at Harvard. But if his swallow–tail didn’t arrive back from the tailor on time, this apparently nonchalant gentleman would worry about being forced to appear in a tuxedo at the dinner table, which was considered as “very inappropriately dressed”. Arnold van Geuns & Clemens Rameckers, the creative team behind RAVAGE, have curated an intimate look at the fetishizing of male fashions. Housed in the historic Zypendaal Castle and set against the lush Sonsbeek gardens, the in-situ exhibition will explore the ties that bind men to their undergarments, accessories, shoes, scents and secrecy. Accompanied tours of the venue start on a regular basis.Zypendaalseweg 44, Arnhem: open from June 9 until 1st of September, daily from 11:00 – 18:00 www.moba.nu illustration: Arnold van Geuns -- source link
