I’m gonna cry :) And if you can tell, they still have no obligation to tell you or anyone else ever, and you sure as hell don’t get to out them. Passing shouldn’t be a condition of not being outted. what about “even if you can tell, don’t” or “even if you can tell, it’s nobody’s fucking business” or “if you think you can tell, you could be wrong and maybe you should reevaluate your perceptions of gender, assigned-sex, and gender expression” so on one hand… yes, commentary, indeed. while this might be a good way to shock a trans issue newbie into reconsidering some of their cissexism, uh. whether a person needs to explain to you, stranger, or even you, friend, you family member, etc. really has nothing to do with whether they can be read as trans or not. because they aren’t under any such obligation, regardless of pretty much anything… it’s their own damn life. not your business. even if they’ve got on a bright sparkly t-shirt that says HEY GUESS WHAT I’M TRANS! but then there’s the other issue with this. which is, why exactly is this psa or whatever it is using trans men? I mean hey maybe I’ve been living under a rock and there actually is some big virulent cultural trope that trans men need to disclose that they’re trans or else they’re deceivers, need to be put in their place for that, etc. etc. but um… while I’m sure that does happen to some trans men, because of cissexism, it is a much much bigger problem for trans women. and taking the problem of this overwhelmingly transmisogynistic sentiment and generalising it as a problem solely of cissexism, as though it affects trans men to the same degree, to use it as a vehicle for urging people to treat (white, cisheteronormative) trans men as socially acceptable, with no mention of the (poc, non-cisheteronormative) trans women who need the benefits of fighting this sentiment so much more…. um. no. -- source link
