fatphobiabusters: This comment is great so I’m sharing it. You know, so many times when fat people criticize this show, we get told that we are “attacking” people. We get told that we should be glad that there is a gay/black character who is treated well because that’s more important. We get told that we’re overreacting and that it’s just a joke. We get told not to be such babies. We get told we are horrible people. We get told we are ungrateful for progress and should stop criticizing creators because they might stop making shows like B99. We get told a lot of shit. When we say it calmly we are told to calm down. When we word it kindly we are accused of bullying B99 fans. It’s frustrating as hell. All I want is for people to understand that no, not everyone has to like it, and no, we aren’t bad people if we don’t. We have our reasons and our reasons are legitimate. That doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate the ways it is progressive. But we should be allowed to demand better. And we should be allowed to be hurt by hearing how the show is “perfect” to ALL minority and oppressed groups and treats ALL people with respect. I guess fat people aren’t people, then, because that doesn’t happen for us. I wish B99 fans would understand this. You can like the show, fine, but can you do it while being critical of the fatphobia and demand that shows stop reinforcing and celebrating fatphobia, while also being respectful to fat people who do not enjoy the show? -Mod Bella -- source link
