mild-lunacy:prettyarbitrary:jonnyluvssherlock:artemisfowls:The East Wind takes us all in the end.you can see John’s whole world breaking around him as he see’s the fall happening all over again.i think part of the reason Sherlock turned away is because thats what he saw to. he realized moments to late that he hit a trauma point in John. him being taken away from John and he’s done it all over again. he can’t bear to look so he turns awaySherlock does look a little startled there. ”See, I told you I’d take care of- Oh, shit. That’s the devastated face. In retrospect, this might have been a terrible idea.”I like this reading! I’ve always been sort of ambiguous about making conclusions based on facial expressions unless the connotation was made obvious by context, and sometimes the context is ambiguous so the whole thing becomes ambiguous to me. But John does look rather traumatized, doesn’t he? And not traumatized as in, ‘Sherlock must really love me, since he has just sacrificed himself for me and Mary, whoa’, but more like, just shocked and horrified as the situation spiraled completed out of John’s hands. And I could see how it’d trigger memories of Barts, too. Once again, it wasn’t about anything he did, anything he said, but Sherlock just pressing the red button and destroying their lives. Of course, this time too, Sherlock thought he was only destroying his life, not his and John’s. But that’s not true, is it? Of course he can’t pull that trigger without John feeling his life is in the balance as much as Sherlock’s.Well, killing people isn’t generally a good idea, and doesn’t really work to ‘fix things’ for others who care about you, either. Not really. And I really can see that half a second look of ‘oh shit’. Sherlock still doesn’t get it. John had never wanted his sacrifice, or else what was the point of standing there and taking Magnussen’s flicks, waiting for Sherlock to come up with a plan? It was supposed to be buying time, not driving Sherlock into such a frenzy that he’d murder someone. And no matter what Sherlock’s fate was, John would have just wanted to share it, if he couldn’t actually help. -- source link
