socialjusticeace: vague-humanoid: thestraggletag: thecelestialchild: Keep this energy AND defund the police AND change policy. This allows more inclusion in entertainment and provides more opportunities for Black people and people of color. It also allows for voice actors of color to bring more nuance to their characters and may impact overall character and storyline development. This is important, even if it seems surface level. Besides, like a lot of people have pointed out, the people doing this are actors who in no way, shape or form have any say on police funding. So this is both a good step towards inclusivity and better representation and, hopefully, will add to the pressure that authorities might be feeling towards defunding the police. the voice acting his has been fought for for a long time and I’m glad to see these changes. I’m just concerned these will be touted by police defenders (and their centrist allies) as “look what you already got, why are you never satisfied?” I love this, but don’t for a moment believe this isn’t being weaponized in the public consciousness to undermine the struggle against police violence. Thank you! This conversation makes me so sad because the voice acting shit is actually important! It impacts the storytelling! The representation! Who gets works and who doesn’t! I could go on about this but it’s 3am rn -- source link
