Chinatown (1974).A private detective hired to expose an adulterer finds himself caught up in a web of deceit, corruption, and murder.I’m sort of struggling to write about this movie honestly, because at the end of the day, I liked it a lot. It’s a tremendous script with an incredible use of pacing, rich, nuanced performances and some beautiful scoring. In that sense alone, it’s a terrific piece of cinema, but it’s hard to divorce it from it’s director, particularly given the content of the film’s pivotal twist. In that sense, approach with warning, and I’m going to refrain from giving it an actual rating on here. I enjoyed the work itself, but not the context behind the work. -- source link
