The sort of survivor that knew from the moment she heard Hannibal’s voice in her hospital room that he was the same man who called her father. The survivor who decided to withhold that knowledge - except with Hannibal himself. The girl from the flashbacks in Season 3 - that was the girl who didn’t immediately go to Alana or Freddie or Will or Jack and say THAT IS THE MAN ON THE PHONE.Do you really think she really believes Hannibal when he says he’s nothing like her father? Maybe at one level she wants to…but is there anything we know about her that lets you think she really actually accepts that? Why on earth would she, her father’s daughter, believe that of the same man who just admitted to orchestrating a scenario where she herself killed a man? And then helped her hide the body? She’s not dumb. She’s not naive. And look back to her performance for Jack over Nick Boyle’s body - she knows when she needs to pass the test.I do think she’s sincerely afraid Hannibal may decide to kill her in that moment. But I also thinks she’s savvy enough to know that Hannibal wants her to show that fear. She’s trying to trigger his protective response. This is the man who hugged her when she admitted she helped her father. She knows he’s vulnerable to her, too. I genuinely don’t see any contradiction with any of the tags’ points and the flashback in season 3. “I didn’t know what to do, so I just do what he told me” is Abigail’s entire survival mechanism. It is what she does. Here she realizes that the complicated dance she and Hannibal were doing until this point is entering a new phase much more similar to the relationship she had with her father. In the flashback, she is doing for him what she did for her father: she is joining him in his hobbies and activities for the sake of her own survival. “Can I hold it?” is participating in what they’re doing together, just like shooting a deer with Garrett was. I don’t think you even have to see what she’s doing in these gifs as insincere (though it’s definitely easy to believe that she’s letting it show on purpose). She definitely does think she’s going to die here, which is exactly why in the next scene (next chronologically, not narratively) she’s playing happy poppet. Because that’s how she gets to not die. -- source link
