strugglingtobeheard:nezua:delishytown:reblogging: interesting info regarding Artichokesbrilliantbotany:An artichoke is a thistle, Cynara cardunculus var. scolymus. It is an aster, meaning it is a member of the Asteraceae family. The part of it you eat is the involucre, which is the circle of green points below a flower’s petals. Only young blooms are edible.Post requested by waldfeuer.i grew up eating these, still love them so much. little bowl of tamari and butter melted, dip the leaves in, scrape the meat off with your teeth, keep going until you get to the heart. damn. i grew up on these too!! they are one of those things i crave whenever i visit my grandparents. my grandma makes them stuffed with breadcrumbs and lemon juice and something else and some salt and lemon on the leaves are awesome. but i love the heart. she said they getting to expensive tho :’(Yeah artichokes are fairly expensive where I now live, but I like to treat myself every couple of months because they make me fuckin’ happy. I slice off the stem and about an inch off the top, use scissors to snip off all the needles, soak in lemon water to clean, steam them and serve with a Chinese dipping sauce. It’s all about the hearts, made even sweeter by the patient journey to get there, eating leaf by leaf, then removing the hairy choke before slicing into the heavenly center. I usually eat two in one sitting because one is just not enough for me. -- source link
