Excellent condition Italian Japanese Type I Carcano Rifle,During the 1930’s and World War II priority in the issuance of rifles went to the Japanese Army. This often left the Japanese Navy with a shortage of rifles. As a result the Japanese Navy often had to contract other countries to manufacture their firearms. The above rifles are Type I Carcano’s. Made in Italy, about 60,000 would be produced and shipped to Japan. Chambered in the standard Japanese 6.5x50 Arisaka, every part of the rifle except the Carcano action was created to mimick the Type 38 Arisaka. The action was the only remaining vestige of its Italian manufacture. Most of these rifles never saw combat. Many would never leave storage. -- source link
