leafo-flameo: bravelittlesoldiergirl: Ohana means f a m i l y — no one gets left behind, and no one is ever forgotten. What’s really heartbreaking is, for years, as far as Yin knew, her son had forgotten his family. Sahn leaves home on less-than-ideal terms, and years pass without any word from him. Eventually, a letter arrives. He has a wife, two sons —Yin’s grandchildren— and Yin hopes he one day visits so she can meet the family he’s found for himself. Afterwards, all contact is broken. No more letters come. She later hears news from Republic City about Mako and Bolin; they’re apparently pro-benders, now Bolin’s found a career as a mover star. And yet she hears nothing from Sahn. She probably thought he forgot about her, that he decided he didn’t want anything to do with his family after all. That’s heartbreaking, and yet Yin still held out hope he would return one day. Instead, her grandchildren end up wandering in by chance. She doesn’t get to see her son or meet her daughter-in-law as she hoped. She finds out her son didn’t forget about her; he was killed years ago. And she never even had a way of knowing. -- source link
