Books I loved most in 2015:I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith: My main reaction to this book was utter disbelief that I hadn’t read it before. It shot to my top 10 all-time favorites before I was even halfway done. I am a sucker for coming of age stories and this one is about as good as it gets. The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson: Discovering Maggie Nelson may be my literary highlight of 2015. Her writing is the perfect combination of critical theory, philosophy, poetry, and narrative. The Argonauts was my gateway, but Bluets was also amazing. Check her out.Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates: In the age of #blacklivesmatter, this book should be required reading. A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara: Holy hell, this book shattered me. I read it in May and I still think about these characters at least once a week as if they were real people in my life. An epic novel on friendship, time, living with your demons, and love. 100% guaranteed to make you bawl your face off, but totally worth the kleenex. The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan: Confession: I have a tiny obsession with Kate Middleton and Prince William. This book is a fictionalized retelling of their courtship at university. Fun, cleverly written, and totally engrossing. If you want good escapism there is no land more foreign than the royal family! The Story of a New Name by Elena Ferrante: I had Ferrante Fever in 2015, reading all four of the Neapolitan novels this year. The whole series is amazing, but there was something special about the second book with beachy Ischia as the backdrop to love triangles and intrigue.Euphoria by Lily King: A fictionalized re-telling of one of anthropologist Margaret Mead’s expeditions. A love triangle in the middle of a jungle? Yes, please.Random stats:Of the 54 books I read 37 were by women, 17 by men18,336 pages total -- source link
