lucrezianoin:20 DAYS OF ARTHURIAN BOOKS: DAY 01 (This is my list)Mordred, bastard son (Douglas Clegg)Best character of the book?I think I have to say Mordred. Probably because he was the main character and the narrator so he was the most sympathetic character. (But not one of my favourite Mordred). How did you find it? I was reading Mordred’s page on wikipedia and of course the fact that this book is listed as ‘that one book where Lancelot and Mordred are lovers’ caught my attention. How many times did you read it? Twice (or maybe three times? I don’t remember). Mostly because I bought it a lot of years ago so I had to reread it when my English was a bit improved with the years.Would you recommend it? Why?No, I wouldn’t. The fact that the main character is gay is, of course, wonderful because we don’t have a lot of lgbt representation in arthurian books but, well, I wouldn’t recommend this book. Mostly because it should be the first of a trilogy which has never been continued so you will be left in the middle of a story.Second point: I found many things confusing. I had this feeling that Douglas Clegg didn’t really know what he was doing or what the arthurian legends were. When I read an arthurian novel I think it’s clear that the author loved the arthurian stuff to write about it. But with Douglas Clegg it was just like it happened to him.And after reading the book I’ve read the introduction which says exactly that. He heard about Mordred and thought “Let’s write about him”.What I want to say is that the book lacks passion. -- source link
