kittywinks: “Dude…” Gym class had just let out, and Tucker had been waiting outside the locker room for Danny who had been taking his time, showering after everyone had left as he was prone to do. “Right?” Danny shrugged, his expression wry and not just a little hurt, reaching down to pull at the front of his shirt. FREAK had been spray painted onto the front. The paint still looked wet. Tucker felt a hard knot of sympathy form in his gut and swallowed it down. Danny wasn’t like Sam, who got off on individuality and being set apart from the crowd. Danny wanted to fit in so desperately that it was like the universe was playing a fat joke when it gave him super powers like he didn’t already have a hard time fitting in to begin with. “I guess it doesn’t matter if you’re a superhero in highschool.” Danny dropped his shirt front with a piece of strained, hollow laughter, shooting Tucker a wink as he shrugged helplessly. “Looks like I’m always gonna be the freak.” Staring at his oldest childhood friend for a long moment, Tucker sighed and reached out to throw his arm around the other boy’s shoulders, pulling him close into a one-armed hug. Danny leaned in, and thankfully the hallway was empty for this small moment of weakness. ~~~ Slipping in just under the PST deadline for day 2 of @diddly-darn-ghost‘s angst week for ‘Identity’! What other people label you as has a great impact on your own sense of who you are. -- source link
