royalsandchill: You know what, yes, the situation would be different for a lot of people, for most people. But no, it cannot be the same for her because their situation isn’t the same. Her husband’s grandmother is the longest reigning monarch in British history and is a beloved figure not just in the commonwealth, but across the globe. The family she married into is one of the most famous in the world. And her husband was a prominent public figure in the United Kingdom. Like it or not, once she married into that family, she became a representative by association. When she and Harry would go to royal engagements or went on tours, they did so on behalf of the Queen and the monarchy, not on behalf of themselves (at least, in theory.) In most cases it would not make sense to do all this on behalf of a country you did not have any loyalty or affection for, but perhaps that is why they left and went to the United States. They clearly stated why they left. It had nothing to do with not having affection or loyalty to Britain and everything to do with the press and people taking a crap all over everything they did for the commonwealth at any opportunity. I’m sure anyone going into their workplace being told they are trash, their child likened to a monkey, having all their work spat back at them as not good enough, being insulted for wearing appropriate attire, being accused of terrorism for eating avocado and the lust goes on would quite that job. -- source link
