japanesegrumblings: A fun fact about me: I’m addicted to books. I love nothing more than going to a bookstore and walking out with a library’s worth of books. Before coming to Korea, my mom bought me a Kindle to curb my habit. Back then, I thought I would only be in Korea for 2 years, so it made sense to have an e-reader so that I wouldn’t end up with a hoard of books. Unfortunately, it’s going on 7 years in Korea. And I’ve learned how to read Korean. Now my room is a mess of Korean novels that I’ll get to eventually. Now that I’m studying Japanese, my book addiction has a new fuel source…The first book is the textbook I use for class. We’re finishing up part one this month. We’ll start the book I just bought next month. It should take us through to the beginning of intermediate level grammar!Since the grammar is starting to get a bit complicated, I decided to buy another textbook for reinforcement. I was using Genki, but throwing English into the mix made things harder for me. In class, I’d see or hear a word I had learned through Genki, but since Genki is in English, my brain had to translate from Japanese to English to Korean to Japanese. So I decided to cut out the English entirely and bought this Korean book. It’s published by the academy where I take classes, which is nice because the material overlaps well, making for good review. The third book is my aspirational book. Also from my academy’s company, this is a beginner’s reader. I’ll probably start working my way through this at the end of next month’s classes!I also have a fourth book I bought last month to help with my Japanese writing and one for hanja. I know there are a lot of free resources, but having the structure of books works best for me. Also, book addiction. If anyone’s interested in seeing what the inside of a Japanese textbook for Korean learners looks like, feel free to message me, and I’ll happily oblige. I will say that I like how colorful they are compared to many Western textbooks! -- source link
