thotiantics: jonpertwee: sherlatetothemoriparty: a woman started ramming her car into her car with her 2 year old daughter inside. she had a permit. the gun was unloaded. Michigan has stand your ground laws. she’s 7 months pregnant with a high risk pregnancy. she’s just been sentenced to 2 years in prison. not a fucking word from Tomi Lahren, or any of the “Guns should be allowed for self defence!!” crowd. she got 2 years for brandishing a LEGALLY OWNED UNLOADED GUN, AN ACTION WHICH IS LEGAL IN HER STATE at someone who was threatening the life of her 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. meanwhile police get paid administrative leave for murdering unarmed black men in “self defence” america really hates black people more than it loves guns ( source: https://www.vox.com/2018/5/4/17311452/gun-rights-black-lives-matter-michigan-siwatu-salama-ra ) Destroy the legal system. I’m so over it. Lives aren’t games. An update as of 03/03/2020 and some context. Siwatu was released from incarceration after spending 9 months in prison. She was released on born November 2018 with a GPS ankle monitoring for a year. Her conviction was reverse in August 2019, her ankle monitoring removed in October. Unfortunately, Wayne County Prosecutors refused to dismiss Siwatu’s case and instead presented her with two options: go back to trial for the original charge (felonious assault and felony firearm) and risk being taken from her children again, or take the misdemeanor brandishing plea. Though Siwatu and her community stand by her innocence, she was at risk of being taken from her family and community so she pleaded no contest. Siwatu is a long term environmental justice organizer and activist in Detroit, this was targeted attack on her as a Black Muslim woman involved in her community’s fight for justice. Her incarceration and her subsequent fight to stay free shows how the carceral system in this country targets Black people and robs them of their humanity. Even in the midst of the violence she faced from the criminal justice system, Siwatu and other women continued to fight for their humanity and organize, holding poetry groups and organizing for change.
