Portrait of a Night Street Walker by Karen Capino“This image is part of my on-going portrait work called Stories of the Night. A photo project on Manila’s male prostitutes.Vincent (not his real name) is a male “street walker” that roam the streets of Metro Manila. He started when he was 13 and has been doing his job for 8 years. He has a wife who doesn’t know what he does for a living. He earns a minimum of $100 a day, an unimaginable amount for Filipinos with a typical wage of $10 a day. He said that the job can be dangerous with a lot of people who can appear mad, neurotic and abusive. However he can’t imagine looking for a regular job at this stage of his life. When I asked him if he is addicted to sex, a probable reason why he can’t stop the vicious cycle of his career, he said that he enjoys some part of it.Vincent is just one of many street walkers with a story. My goal is to do an in-depth story on their lives through a book and a photo exhibit.” - Karen Capino. -- source link
