lb-lee:retroactivebakeries:watergender:reblog if you’re a professional gayI’m still in the semipros hoping for my big breakI know I’m taking a contextless shitpost and overthinking it, but it’s fascinating to me how “bitterly confrontational” can actually mean, “not hiding and taking shit.”Being closeted and never making a big deal about your partner? “Wholesome and chill.” Actually having a celebration in honor of that and correcting people? “Highly political, bitterly confrontational.”Having ‘respectful conversations’ with the Free Speech Jerk Bus people, where they constantly try and persuade you that you don’t exist and your rights should be taken away, but always smiling, never showing any sign of anger, and treating their disagreement as a triviality, like not liking chocolate? “Wholesome and chill.” Protesting the stupid bus? “Highly political and bitterly confrontational.”Don’t get me wrong, it IS possibly to use relentless cheerfulness and politeness to drill homophobes into the ground; I’ve done it. But it requires INTENSE endurance, carefully controlled situations, and most importantly, it requires giving up all hope of winning. Using your own perky politeness as a sledgehammer requires accepting that your goal is not to WIN the argument; it’s merely not to lose. Everything from there on after is marathoning until the other side gets tired and leaves. But it’s not for everyone. It’s certainly not for me, all the time. -- source link
