DNF Read approximately 30%Molasses was faster, and probably more interesting than this book. Told mostly from the Beasts perspective, of what I read, it follows the original fairy tale quite closely. There are some interesting differences though. Mainly, the Beast’s personality. We hear his voice more than any other, and we see him agonize over the curse, suffer with his loneliness and honestly want to be a more “human”, nicer individual. To be honest, with his personality being portrayed the way it was, it was hard to see why he was cursed. He was nice, he had emotion, empathy. He was sorrowful when he misbehaved. Isabeau (Belle) was portrayed just as she normally is, smart, tough, brave. Though it seemed this Belle did not read as much as other incarnations of the character we have seen. Her father, and sisters, were the same as shown in original versions of the tale. The problem was the inordinate amount of unnecessary detail. It slowed the pace down to where snails were faster. The plot barely moved. By page 150 the Beast was still talking about how he might like to pursue a relationship with Belle. That was approximately halfway and things were still at square one, essentially. It just put me to sleep with it’s slow pace, and little plot development. I’m not sure if the pace improved, or if the story line got more interesting as the book progressed, I could not hang in there long enough to find out. -- source link
