dorianflynn: Abraham steeled himself, and prayed that his late hour would not disturb them. He had heard the Lord kept late hours, but he did not know if that included his staff as well. He admonished himself afterwards, however. Foolish. What Lord does not keep a staff at all times to cater to them. The knocker was heavy iron, and it lay against wood as dark as the sky. It’s knock echoed through the hidden halls just beyond him, unanswered. Abraham waited and shivered for what felt like ages. He had but one threadbare jacket to block the crafty breeze, which found every hole and loose thread a delightful playground. At last, the door was opened. A man in a fine, woolen suit and silk shirt greeted him with a glare. “What is your business?” he asked. His voice was like the dark blue of the ocean, mesmerizing and deep. “I’ve come to speak to the Lord of this estate,” Abraham said, and then flinched. His voice was sharper than he wished, like a childs, despite his near thirty years. Nervousness poisoned all. “And you have done so,” the man said. “If that truly is all the business you have.” Abraham was taken aback. He had expected to find the Lord thin and wasting from his isolation. Instead, the man before him was tall and broad as the cliff side, with neatly tucked black hair the same shade as a ravens feather. His face was as sharp as the collar he wore, and his skin was a dark olive, blending with the shadows. He could not imagine this man as the subject of all the gossip he had heard for so many years. Although other gossip, he shuddered to think, suddenly felt quite appropriate indeed. The Vampire Baron is available now on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.
