petebrownuk: WHY THE SHORTS?It’s not clear why this slave is being whipped wth shorts on - clearly it’s a skilled whipmaster doing the whipping, judging by the evenness and the degree of parallelism in the whip marks. IT’s curious, too, that the slave has been secured to the whipping post so that he is forced to bend, and the shorts are split-sided so that more of his thigh is exposed.Perhaps it’s because the wife of the slave’s owner is present to view the spectacle, and it’s considered indelicate for a slave’s bare ass to b exposed to view during punishment - the posture is to give the lady a little excitement, as she could perhaps imagine what those shorts conceal if the legs split further. -- source link
