Day 27Reflections on: Death Line (1972)I love Donald Pleasence! He elevates every movie he’s in. His character in this is great. He plays a grumpy detective who stirs his cup of tea with a dart. Both he and the other main detective are real shorties and it’s cute. It starts with an excellent title sequence with beautiful focus pulling and the lowest bass riff you could imagine. A lot of this reminded me of the tube sequence in An American Werewolf in London (1981) but darker and spookier. The main woman in this movie has a glorious Jane Fonda-esque shag mullet hairstyle.Dracula himself Christopher Lee is in one memorable scene with a big moustache. The height difference between Christopher Lee (6′5″) and Donald Pleasence (5′6″) was so great that they couldn’t be in the same shot together. The scenes that take place underground have a slow, panning shots with a completely different pacing than that of the scenes that take place aboveground. This really helps to make it feel like a totally different world.Good experimental synth sounds during violent sequences. I want to live in a 70′s British bookshop. This was pretty good! -- source link
