Day 23Reflections on: Season of the Witch (1972)A polyester patterned dreamscape! The movie begins with a very experimental dream sequence. There are several of these throughout the film complete with bleep bloop synth music. The editing style is bizarre and abrupt and can feel disorienting. The acting style seems like a cross between non-professional and naturalistic filmed almost vérité style. This could have something to do with the unique way it was edited. There’s a great montage of the protagonist shopping for witch supplies and her transformation into a practicing witch that is set to Donovan’s song “Season of the Witch”. There are dozens of shots of a small ceramic bull figurine in the protagonist’s bedroom. The object has no real significance. It’s just a tiny bull and it’s funny to see a close-up of it sometimes 5 times per scene. This could be the most 70′s looking film ever. How did people get their hair so big and helmet-like? Was everyone huffing hair spray non-stop?This feels like a cross between Images (1972) and The Love Witch (2016). I love both of those movies! This is a surprisingly subtle and effective feminist film by George A. Romero! Who knew!? -- source link
