Day 18Reflections on: Long Weekend (1978)I knew from the opening shots of menacing ferns that this movie would be excellent. The main characters are a husband and wife who wear matching track jackets and hate each other but for some reason decided to go camping together in the middle of nowhere. The husband is especially terrible. The wife describes the pristine Australian wilderness as an “ugly place”.The man brings a PLAYBOY with him! on a camping trip! with his wife!I’m no expert - but is it normal to bring an entire raw chicken and a whole bag of sugar on a camping trip?? There is so much excellent animal acting in this; but beware - there is some animal violence. The animals also inflict some of the violence so that is cool and satisfying. The wife becomes obsessed with a strange egg. I love this plot line. There is a synth motif whenever something spooky is afoot which is eerily similar to John Carpenter’s score for Halloween (1978). I wonder if it was just a happy synthesizer coincidence.Possums forever!Watch this! -- source link
