Day 15Reflections on: Cat People (1982)This is the fourth movie made by Paul Schrader - who I really like as a writer and director. He’s made some great movies like Hardcore (1979), The Comfort of Strangers (1990), and Light Sleeper (1992).The music is by Giorgio Moroder and of course the main song is by David Bowie. So that rocks.Does Malcolm McDowell ever play just a normal guy? He’s always such a total weirdo creep. It seems sort of unnecessary to reveal that about his character because like… we GET it. John Heard, Ed Begley Jr. and Anette O’Toole all play cat police. OK they’re zoo keepers but the way they work so closely with detectives and feel at home in crime scenes is very unusual. This is full of beautiful, vibrant New Orleans architecture. The zoo was a set, thank god, because it truly felt overwhelmingly like animal jail which was very depressing. Contains: incestuous juggling, sexy fishing, very high-wasted pants, and panther barf.Excellent animal acting. This is extremely different from the original Cat People (1942).About half way through this switches from a mystery horror to an erotic thriller and I could have don’t without that, but at least there’s a good song at the end! -- source link
