Day 5Reflections on: Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972)This could have been called Funky Dracula. It sort of feels like an Austin Powers movie but it’s not really supposed to be a comedy. Inexplicably the movie opens with a band playing two full songs. Beautiful cinematography by Dick Bush. It looks like and feels as silly as an episode of The Mighty Boosh or Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace.A bunch of hippies (in 1972) decide to summon the devil “for a giggle”.The main character is a woman named Jessica Van Helsing. The other characters say the name “Jessica” approximately 5,000 times. Jessica has a spectacular mod mullet. The costumes are all excellent. One of the characters is named Johnny Alucard which is PRETTY CLOSE to “Billy Dracula” which is my name on twitter. He is a sneaky guy who attempts to seduce people with 2 tickets to “the jazz spectacle” and lures youths to a crypt to listen to a drum solo. All the cool kids hang out in a bar that looks like a haunted spider web.Peter Cushing and his cheekbones play grandpa Van Helsing, a renowned Dracula scholar who after a long night of researching and cross referencing vampire tomes discovers that “Alucard” is in fact “Dracula” spelled backwards. -- source link
