Day 3Reflections on: Beware! The Blob (1972)Wow! What a wacky movie. This was written and directed by Larry Hagman AKA The Major from I Dream of Jeannie. It opens with a kitten and goofy synthesizer music by Canadian synth god Mort Garson. Truly a perfect way to start a movie. It appears that Larry Hagman enlisted a lot of his TV actor friends to improvise goofy vignettes where the ending of each scene is the same: SURPRISE, THE BLOB IS HERE!One of the characters watches The Blob (1958) on TV, just to refresh our memories about what exactly a blob is.Burgess Meredith plays “old hobo” drunkenly in a poncho, uncredited of course. All the dialogue is inconsequential. There’s a lot of muttering but not in a charming Altman-esque way, just a meandering, no script kind of way.Two characters talk about an avocado sandwich in THREE SCENES.This movie is so bad it’s almost avant garde. It feels like Larry Hagman was maybe on acid the whole time?? Lost of Miller High Life product placement.Despite how bad this movie is I definitely recommend it :) -- source link
