soulstooloud:TW: Rape, Incest. As some of you already know, my mother was a victim of incest at the hands of her brother for the entirety of her childhood. Despite her horrendously traumatic experiences, charges were never filed against her brother because her parents refused to believe her and bullied her into silence until long after the statute of limitations had expired. Two days ago, she shared a link to an article in the Chicago Tribune on her Facebook commenting positively on the changes in the way sexual assault allegations are treated today compared to when she was a child. It was a rather innocuous post - she didn’t even mention her brother by name (she has two). Yesterday she received an email from a lawyer representing her brother accusing her of making “derogatory statements and false allegations”. This same lawyer has threatened legal action against her for refusing to take back her comments. A victim of unimaginable sexual violence is being threatened with a lawsuit for speaking out; THIS IS RAPE CULTURE. At my mothers request, I am sharing this with you all.
