dead-revolutionaries:theydieholdinghands:#this makes me cry every time i see it #i always imagine that musichetta was orphaned right before she met joly #she worked to earn her living in a factory #rented a room with a consierge like fantine #moved in with joly after they started a relationship #she was supposed to marry either joly or bossuet just so she would pass as a respectable citizen in her work #and with losing them she lost the last people she cared about #after that she became a nun and lived the end of her days peacefully in a convent #the sisters were initially displeased with her since gossip about her living in an unmarried relationship reached them #but she ultimately gained their respect with her ingenious financial ideas to maintain the convent #she lived until an old age well respected if slightly bitter (x) The young sister that took care of her on her deathbed was an apt caretaker for the elderly. Every other day she went to the other side of the Seine to attend to an aged baroness, per request of her grandchildren. Baroness Pontmercy could hardly see or move anymore, but was ever-delighted to be visited by someone from the convent she had spent her childhood years in. Every time she would inquire of the sister about news from the convent and every time the young nun would happily chatter about the other sisters and new antics of young students from the convent school. The day she announced the passing of the eldest sister to Baroness Pontmercy, she swore to all sanctities - though swearing was a sin - that she could hear distant singing echoing through the ancient corridors of the convent. She was sure the elderly lady would dismiss her ramblings as a young girl’s overactive imagination. But Baroness Pontmercy merely smiled and nodded sagely. -- source link
