black-to-the-bones:Troop 6000 is the first in New York City designated solely for homeless girls. The new troop is among a number of programs begun by the city to meet the needs of children, who make up nearly 40 percent of the roughly 60,000 people in the city’s primary shelter system. Of 287 people housed at the Sleep Inn, 155 are under 18, according to homeless services. The Girl Scouts of Greater New York is covering the costs for Troop 6000: a $25 membership fee; a $75 starter kit of patches, pins, workbooks and vests; and the $20 monthly dues. Donations are being accepted. These girls deserve a better life. They’re amazing and beautiful and they are so kind. They want to grow up and be able to help other homeless people , to build shelters and save lives. These noble thoughts should not drown in poverty and the lack of opportunities for homeless people. We are the community we should help each other and fight for equal rights and opportunities, because unity is the only way to survive.Source -- source link
