Unfortunately, we’ve seen many young fawns brought into the centre recently. Whilst those who found them did so with the best intentions, and may well have watched for some time before deciding to intervene, doing so can often have disastrous consequences. Female deer will leave their fawns for long periods - sometimes hours at a time - before returning, with the youngster hunkering down or curling up in grass or vegetation for cover. Whilst they may appear abandoned or lost, this is completely normal. Unfortunately, picking up the young fawn not only separates it from a mother that will return to find it, causing stress to both parties, but it may also lead to rejection if she smells human scent on her offspring. Please ALWAYS contact a wildlife rescue centre BEFORE intervening with a young deer. Whilst there are times that intervention is needed, please don’t touch the deer without getting advice from someone first. If someone has made contact with the fawn, return it to exactly where it was found and gently rub it all over with a handful of dirt to remove your scent. If your local wildlife rescue is not able to answer, please call our reception team on 09061 800132 and we will do our best to advise. #wild #wildlife #rescue #veterinary #animal #animals #nature #animalsofinstagram #animalrescue #deer #fawn #babyanimals #instadaily #instagood #tuesday #TuesdayMotivation #charitytuesday https://www.instagram.com/p/CAqqfxQAr5M/?igshid=z2xiva3g9rf5 -- source link
