WAF has been deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of Swan Sanctuary founder, Dot Beeson. Long-term friend of WAF and fellow rehabber, Dot set up the Swan Sanctuary - a haven for sick and injured swans and waterfowl - in her back garden in the early ’80’s, before outgrowing the site and selling her home to set the sanctuary up on new ground. WAF has worked closely with the Swan Sanctuary, over the years, treating patients that have then been transferred to Dot so that they might recover in her care. Before being awarded an MBE, Dot was handed the BEM in 1991 and received a Pride of Britain award in 2001, as well as the International Fund for Animal Welfare award in 2015, highlighting the dedication to her work. Driven, passionate and with the vital requisite degree of madness it takes to be a wildlife rehabber, Dot was one of the best. She just cracked on and did it! Thank you, Dot, for the countless lives you so selflessly saved. https://www.instagram.com/p/B_5AjSdgoN6/?igshid=8v2k8xdrlfuo -- source link
