Last spring, Medusa’s Musings covered one of the performances of the - a week-long celebration of new music organized by composers and lovers of the genre catered to audience, new and knowledgable alike. Tomorrow, November 17th, MATA continues its innovative ambitions with the Inaugural MATA Jr. Festival. The 7:30pm performance at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music will continue the MATA tradition of focusing on living composers under the age of 40 - this group, however, is a little younger than the usual batch. MATA Jr. presents the works of 8 composers not-yet in college! These works will be performed by new music ensemble Face the Music whose teenage members enthusiastically embrace the compositions of their peers. Of course, MATA not only services the audience by presenting these works, but aids the young composers as well, pairing them with a seasoned mentor. This year’s roster includes such names as Bryan Jacobs, Tristan Perich, and Missy Mazzoli - works from these composers will be featured as well.
