girlieinterns: TECLA at Brooklyn Bowl 9.15.13 When Tecla took the stage this past Sunday at Brooklyn Bowl I knew I was in for a good show, but I hadn’t quite been prepared for the sheer volume of talent and energy that rocked itself out of the speakers and into my soul. First off, I was astonished by her insane vocal control and her and her DJ’s mastery over voice-manipulation. Auto-tune has certainly garnered a negative reputation in the pop music world through over-use and obvious attempts at masking a lack of talent, but no such accusations can be made against Tecla. Instead of acting as a stand-in for any inability, this shaped the voice into an atmospheric instrument. The electronic elements in her performance created a completeness to the sound, utilizing and emphasizing the precision and power already present in her pitch. But a great musician isn’t made of talent alone, you’ve also got to be able to connect and emote, and Tecla impressed on all fronts. Though she played to a modest Sunday night crowd, that by no means affected her obvious passion for performance. She joked with us, twerked in her yoga pants, moved all over the stage, all the while singing her ass off. Not a single audience member stood still for her entire set, we all danced like graceful idiots to the hypnotic beats, myself very much included. I unfortunately could stick around to see the lovely Miss Ebony Bones, but Tecla gave enough energy to send me jamming into next Saturday. With her fantastic release We Are The Lucky Ones and insane performative power, it is only a matter of time before Tecla gets the stadium audience she deserves. Boom - Carley -- source link
