kimononagoya:A very modern furisode here with red hearts on black—like the Queen of Hearts? This furisode is evoking bridal wear, dragging on the ground, with a padded hem. It could not be worn this way if walking around outside. You would literally have to hold up your hem with at least one hand—in a bridal procession, the bride would have attendants beside her holding a parasol over her head and following extreeeeemely slowly as she walked toward the shrine. In modern cases like this furisode, it’s for (graduation) photo purposes only. Most likely, this kimono is worn only for the photo shoot and not around the town/shopping/getting ramen at the mall etc.The red/black/gold is actually a very “Kimono Neutral” color set—all of those colors can technically be paired with any other color and be “correct” in classical kimono color theory. Many designers use red and black to make a widely sellable kimono. Here there is a strong heart motif, the obi lacks visible design or motif, and the obiage and all other accessories are also flat and vivid— this ensemble is almost graphic in its boldness! -- source link
