benedictsherllock-deactivated20:‘I think Molly was originally intended to just be a little, funny, sweet turn. I didn’t know at the time but they intended her to be in the first episode only. And something worked on screen between Benedict and myself and between the viewer and Molly, so they decided that she would stay. I don’t think the intention was to create a new regular character for Sherlock, but the character grew. So you can draw a line for Molly’s growth through the series and how important she becomes in the second season. It feels that she grows in a really organic way.’Sue Vertue confirms this. ‘Molly was brought in on the first episode of the first series as a means for the lipstick joke, really, and wasn’t supposed to stay at all. But we loved Loo Brealey and what she did with it, and Steven and Mark enjoy writing for her. And so she’s the first regular that isn’t in any of the original stories.’ -- source link
