understatedocelot: ethnianmandarin: crustacean-on-main: twitblr: We know what we be sayin’ (x) why did she test white kids on their knowledge of aave because science is when you follow the scientific method and the more method there is the more science well, the non-aave way of saying “Who be eating cookies” to a white five year old is not “Who be eating cookies? Elmo? See, tricked you! I said ‘be’ not ‘is’!”It’s this: “Who normally eats cookies?” The fact that aave does this with tense only is a cool linguistic feature, but beyond that i am not sure what this study is designed to demonstrate. i presume this is somebody who got money to do some kind of Afrowissenschaft but, at best, was not working in a field linguistic tradition and so was not broadly aware that you do not need to do some “Science! Investigation With Control Group” when eliciting linguistic data or, at worst, was doing it on purpose as some sort of racial consciousness boosting thing so they could present it as a Scientific Proof that White Kids Be Ignorant.this would not happen if people did as i said and implemented the Burgess-Ethnianmandarin Linguistics Education Programme. -- source link
