vandaliatraveler:You know it’s summer in Appalachia’s woods when you get a whiff of decaying russalas - the odor manages to be putrid, heady, and fragrant all at once. I went on a fungi hunt on Chestnut Ridge yesterday and - sure enough - the russalas and other summer mushrooms are coming up from the moss and leaves in droves. The monsoon-like rains and late-summer humidity we’ve been getting for the past week has everything looking green and perky. -- source link
